More About Exilis

Regulatory approval: FDA approved in 11/09 and manufactured in Europe by BTL Industries

Exilis is a non-invasive body shaping and skin tightening device. It uses radiofrequency (RF) energy to liquefy fat and remodel collagen.

The Exilis “body probe” emits RF waves which leave the surface of the skin unharmed, heating only the fat cells located up to five centimeters below the skin's surface. Once liquefied, the fat is processed and naturally excreted from the body.

When used with the state of the art computerized hand held skin probe only the skin and collagen is targeted.  The energy then causes the collagen to reform and tighten. This smoothes the skin and reduces wrinkles, stretch marks and other skin damage.

What It's Good For

Exilis can reduce the circumference of the waist, hips, thighs, arms, inner knees, back, and buttocks and tighten the skin and reduce wrinkles and tighten skin on various parts of the body, most notably the face and neck.

Who it works for:
Exilis is ideal for patients who wish to treat so-called “problem areas” - especially those that are unresponsive to diet and exercise, as well as those experiencing aging, lifestyle (smoking, sun exposure) and post pregnancy related skin damage and aging. For fat loss the abdomen, love handles, buttocks, thighs and hips are popular treatment areas. For skin tightening the most popular areas are the face, around the eyes (bags and drooping eyelids), the abdominal skin, the back of the arms and front of the thighs are the most popular areas.  For body sculpting patients should ideally be no more than 20 to 30 pounds overweight, however even heavier patients are pleased with their outcomes, and many patients repeat the treatments after further weight loss to remove stubborn fat and tightening skin that has sagged with the loss of fat.

Recommended age range: There is no age requirement for Exilis treatments.

When will I see results?: Results should improve with each treatment--many patients see improvements (the loss of an inch or so and visible tightening of the skin) after a single session. Four treatments are always performed for optimal outcomes.

Appointments should be spaced one to two weeks apart. Collagen continues to contract for two to three months after treatments end, resulting in a tighter appearance to the skin over time.

How long it lasts: Once fat is removed from one part of the body, it is unlikely to return to that particular area, though weight can be regained if one overeats (Dr. Center addresses this as part of his anti-aging practice). Wrinkle reduction and skin sagging improvement duration can be up to two years depending on sun exposure and one’s own particular genetics.  Some more advanced areas of skin aging such as stretch marks, sagging skin on the back of the arms and deep facial wrinkles may benefit from a second course of treatment 3-6 months after the first series of treatments once the final result is apparent.  Unlike Botox these are much longer lasting treatments (and non-invasive).

Key benefits of Exilis: A non-invasive procedure, Exilis leaves no scars and requires no recovery period. Exilis treatments are not painful, unlike Thermage, a similar non-invasive skin tightening treatment that also uses RF energy to stimulate collagen growth.  It is not painful because of the advanced skin cooling system that can be adjusted to target the exact depth of penetration and protect the skin.

Physicians are Impressed with Exilis Treatment Results:
